Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons Broth of your favorite
  • 3 Tablespoons Rice Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Sweetener brown, low-carb type
  • 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Orange Zest usually one orange, depending on size, finely grated
  • 3 Pieces Garlic Cloves minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Sesame Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh Ginger or 1/8 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Xanthan Gum

Instructions

  • Gather the broth, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, sweetener, spices, and aromatics so everything is prepped before cooking.
  • Heat sesame oil over medium-high and sauté minced garlic until fragrant, stirring to avoid burning.
  • Add sweetener, broth, orange zest, and ginger and let them cook briefly to blend and deepen the flavors.
  • Whisk in rice wine vinegar and soy sauce, then add xanthan gum and simmer, stirring until the sauce thickens smoothly.
  • Blend with an immersion blender until creamy (or leave slightly chunky if preferred), ready to coat fried chicken.

Notes

  • Balance Sweet and Tangy: Adjust the sweetness by adding sugar or honey, and balance it with vinegar or lemon juice to keep the flavor fresh.
  • Add Ginger for Zing: A small amount of fresh grated ginger can give your sauce a warm, spicy kick that complements the orange.
  • Thicken with Cornstarch: If xanthan gum is unavailable, whisk in cornstarch mixed with water and let the sauce simmer until it thickens.
  • Finish with Orange Zest: A sprinkle of orange zest at the end brings an extra burst of citrus aroma, making your sauce even more vibrant.
