What Is Rose Petal Tea?
Rose petal tea is a gentle, floral drink from dried rose petals. Unlike typical teas like black or green, this tea is freshly brewed by steeping roses in hot water for a few minutes to half an hour, creating a fragrant herbal infusion.
Though similar to rose water for cooking, this tea is quicker and simpler, requiring only steeping. I enjoy it a few times a week, and it’s quickly become one of my favorites for its unique floral taste, unlike any other tea I’ve tried.
Are Roses Edible?
Yes! Roses are edible, though I didn’t realize this at first either—roses were always just bouquets to me. But once I began exploring the kitchen, I discovered people use roses for desserts, savory dishes, and teas. And made for you rose powder, which you can use.
When using roses in your recipes, make sure they’re organic and free from pesticides to ensure their safety for cooking and eating.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS WITH STEPS FOR THIS ROSE TEA RECIPE
First Step: Prepare Roses
Prepare your rose petal flowers and water. Wash the rose petals, if needed and dry them fully afterward.

Second Step: Combine Roses and Water
Separate the dry rose buds from the petals and add them to a mortar and pestle. Use the mortar and pestle only to crush the petals super gently to release their flavor and rose essence. Do not crush them too much.
After that, add the rose flowers to the infuser inside the glass tea cup. Then, pour hot water a bit high to crush them and extract more flavor.

Third Step: Steep
After filling the cup with water, close the lid and let it steep for 20 minutes. Serve with one mini rose inside.

TRICKS AND TIPS FOR MAKING ROSE TEA AT HOME:
- Crushing the rose petals using your hand or using a mortar and pestle will help release more flavor from the fresh rose petals. This process will make the tea taste better.
- Feel free to mix in other herbs like mint, rosemary, or chamomile for a unique flavor twist that you can enjoy better.
- You can sweeten your tea using healthy sugar substitutes like stevia or simple syrup if you want a sweet tea, but I can assure you that it is suitable even without sweetener.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I Also Try Making Iced Tea with Homemade Rose Tea?
Yes, of course you can. I made it with my hot hibiscus tea and an iced version Agua de Jamaica, even with my lavender tea. The best part about homemade rose tea is that you can enjoy it either hot or cold. I’ve tried both, and the fragrance and taste are just as soothing and refreshing, no matter how you serve it.

How To Serve Rose Petal Tea?
I love enjoying a cup of rose petal tea in the afternoon with light snacks like cucumber chips, soaked almonds, or sweet treats like dried cranberries and blueberries in chocolate. The subtle sweetness of the tea perfectly complements these snacks.
One time, when I had guests over, I paired it with a fresh rhubarb dump cake, and it was a hit. The tea’s floral notes balanced out the rhubarb’s tartness, making it a great match for desserts. Almond horn cookies are a perfect treat with which you can pair rose tea.
To keep your rose tea fresh, pour it into mason jars or any container with a tight lid. Store it in the fridge, where it should last a few days. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, drink it warm or add ice cubes for a refreshing iced rose tea.
