This espresso cheesecake is a baked coffee cheesecake with a cocoa almond flour crust and a cream cheese filling built entirely around real espresso powder in both layers. This cheesecake recipe delivers real coffee flavor in every slice. If you want a creamy cheesecake that tastes like what it claims, this is the one to make.

I have been a coffee lover long enough to know when a dessert actually gets the flavor right, and this cheesecake does exactly that. The espresso powder in both the crust and the filling means every slice tastes deeply and genuinely like coffee in the best possible way.

Full-Fat Cream Cheese at Room Temperature

Full-fat cream cheese at room temperature beats completely smooth in under two minutes, giving you a silky cheesecake filling base that evenly holds the cocoa and instant espresso powder. Cold cream cheese will not beat out its lumps no matter how long you run the mixer, and those lumps carry into every slice of the finished cheesecake.

Almond Flour Beats a Graham Cracker Crust

Cocoa and espresso powder pressed into almond flour with coconut oil creates a crust that holds its shape, slices cleanly, and adds a layer of coffee-chocolate flavor before the cheesecake filling even starts. Brioche loaf and cream cheese crepes both show how the right base determines what sits on top.

No-Fuss Guide to Making Espresso Cheesecake

This espresso cheesecake recipe uses a cocoa almond flour crust and a baked chocolate coffee cream cheese filling, set overnight for a firm, clean slice. Four steps, one springform pan, one oven.

Get Your Cooking Crew Ready

  • Springform Pan: Line the base and sides with parchment before anything else goes in.
  • Deep Baking Tray: Holds water on the bottom rack to create a steamy environment.
  • Bowl: Holds the cheesecake filling through all the mixing stages.
  • Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer: Beat the cream cheese until smooth, then incorporate the filling in order.
  • Spatula: Presses the crust flat in the pan and smooths the top of the filling before it goes in the oven.

Ingredients You’ll Need for Flavor Explosion:

For the Crust:

  • Espresso Powder: One tablespoon, which ties the crust directly to the coffee cheesecake filling above it.
  • Refined Coconut Oil: Melted and cooled before it touches the dry ingredients.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Gives the crust its color and chocolate flavor.
  • Almond Flour: One cup of blanched, super-fine almond flour.
  • Powdered Sweetener: Blended into the dry mix before adding the oil.

For the Cheesecake Filling:

  • Espresso Powder: Adds coffee flavor to this cheesecake.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Sift half a cup into the batter after the sweetener.
  • Full-Fat Cream Cheese: This is the one ingredient where the temperature instruction matters.
  • Heavy Cream: Gives the cheesecake filling its silky, pourable consistency.
  • Powdered Sweetener: Goes in after the cream cheese is completely smooth.
  • Sour Cream: Loosens the batter to the right pourable consistency.
  • Eggs: Beat each one until it disappears before adding the next.

Your Flavor-Packed Game Plan for Coffee Cheesecake Recipe

One: Preheat the Oven and Get Everything Ready

Preheat the oven to 350°Fahrenheit (180°Celsius), pour about an inch of water into a deep baking tray, and slide it onto the bottom rack. If the coconut oil has solidified, melt it in the microwave, then set aside to cool. Line the springform pan with parchment paper on the base and sides. Have all filling ingredients out on the counter so the cream cheese reaches room temperature before you begin mixing.

Two: Make and Bake the Crust

Combine the espresso powder, cocoa powder, almond flour, and powdered sweetener in a bowl and stir until evenly mixed, then pour in the cooled coconut oil and stir until you get a damp crumble that holds together when pressed. Pack it firmly across the base of the prepared pan using the palm of your hand. Bake on the middle rack for 10 minutes, pull it out, and lower the oven to 300°Fahrenheit (150°Celsius).

Three: Make the Cheesecake Filling

Beat the room temperature cream cheese in a large bowl until completely smooth with no lumps at all, then add the powdered sweetener, cocoa powder, instant espresso powder, and heavy cream and beat until the batter is silky, deeply colored, and uniform throughout. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each one until fully incorporated, then add the sour cream last and mix for exactly 20 seconds until just combined. Pour the cheesecake batter straight over the cooled crust and smooth the top flat with a spatula.

Four: Bake, Cool, and Chill Overnight

Get the pan onto the middle rack and bake the cheesecake for 60 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave it on the counter for 1 to 2 hours without touching or moving it. Cover and refrigerate overnight, then slice it cold the next day straight from the fridge.

Recipe Notes by Zuzana:

The sour cream step ends the batter, and it is the one most people keep mixing past where they should stop. I ran the mixer for a full minute on the first batch, and the extra air worked into the batter produced a crack straight across the top during baking that I couldn’t explain until I traced it back to that one step. Twenty seconds is the exact instruction. Another recipe you can make to have with this dessert is my protein popcorn chicken.

  • The cream cheese has to be genuinely at room temperature before the mixer starts. Cold cream cheese will not beat smoothly even after several minutes, and the lumps will carry through the cheesecake filling into every slice.
  • Some bakers cool the cheesecake in the oven with the door cracked rather than pulling it out immediately. Either method works, but cooling in the oven only adds extra time without changing the overnight chill requirement that follows.
  • A thin drizzle of chocolate ganache over the surface before serving adds a glossy finish and sharpens the coffee flavor. Melt a small amount of dark chocolate with a spoonful of cream, let it cool slightly, and pour it over the chilled cheesecake just before slicing.
  • Espresso beans pressed lightly into the top of the cheesecake before it chills overnight make a sharp, clean garnish that signals the coffee flavor before the first bite.

Kitchen Q&A: Let’s Crack It

What are the Best Pair-Ups to Try with Espresso Cheesecake Recipe?

This cheesecake is rich enough that it works best after something savory and lighter that clears the palate before dessert. Greek feta salad is the right starter, sharp and fresh enough to set up the espresso cheesecake as a proper finish. The baked sausage links with sauerkraut make a perfect main that leaves you ready for dessert, and the red onion and cucumber salad keeps things light between courses with no effort.

What are the Smart Storage Hacks for a Whole Cheesecake?

Cover the cheesecake tightly with plastic wrap pressed directly onto any cut surfaces and keep it in the fridge for up to 5 days. The coffee flavor actually deepens slightly after the first day as the espresso powder settles through the filling. Serve it cold straight from the fridge every time for the cleanest slice.

How to Freeze This Perfect Cheesecake Like a Pro?

Slice the fully chilled cheesecake, wrap each slice individually in plastic wrap, and transfer to a freezer-safe bag. It keeps for up to 2 months frozen and thaws best overnight in the fridge rather than at room temperature. The filling comes back to a firm, sliceable consistency after a full fridge thaw without losing texture.
